Got a Big Surprise for you, guys. You may even be shocked. But more on that later; let’s look at CamChatter first.
At first glance, CamChatter’s one of those sites where you wonder, “Now, why haven’t I heard of this one before?” Here’s a site that apparently offers you not just softcore, not just hardcore, but also fetish chat performers for you to enjoy yourself with. When you enter the site, you’re treated to a nice free teaser clip of a gamine young lady showing off her cunnilingual expertise, which I took as an encouraging sign. In addition, the home page is set up with rather explicit thumbnails displaying what can be found within each category, and you’ll find more hardcore piccies inside each category that link to the individual performers. Here’s what the home page looks like. Notice how many of the little black stars I had to cleverly place to keep this a PG website, and on just four pictures too! I sure hope you have a vivid imagination.
What a Picture’s Worth
It’s true about a picture being worth a thousand words, right? Yum indeed. But into every life a little rain must fall. As nice as this initial setup looks, it’s about all the free teaser you get on CamChatter, to my utter (udder?) disappointment. (And sadly, there’s worse to follow). Yeah, you can get a little thrill from that lezzie video up top, but it’s really just a slide show that only goes for about five seconds before it repeats. It starts to get old after, say, the fiftieth or sixtieth viewing. And then there’s the thumbnails, which as I’ve indicated are not for the faint of heart. Even the softcore pictures tend to leave little to ye olde imaginatione. Anal, boobs, fetishes, mature ladies, teens…the list is exhaustive. And hey, if you’re into couples, you’ll see some pretty good intro thumbnails here. But ultimately, that’s all you’ll see. Click any of these folks and you’ll be presented with a signup screen.
Membership Hath Its Disappointments
As a guy who likes free, I’m was happy to see that it costs nothing to become a member of CamChatter. But, as with most such sites, there’s a catch: you have to pay, at least a little, before you see anything at all. The costs aren’t all that unusual, really: if you pay by credit card (through good ol’ CCBill) you basically have two options: $2.97 for three days (very intriguing), or $39.67 for a full month. Now, if you pay by telephone access, it costs $24.99, so this might be a good option if you absolutely have to pay for something and don’t need to worry about anyone asking, “Um, honey, what is this Web Phone Access charge on the phone bill for?” Oh, and if you’re in the USA, you can also have the fee debited from your bank account at a rate of $2.97 for three days, or $48.73 per month.
BUT (and this is a big but): no matter how you pay, or which membership you choose, be very careful when you sign up, since your membership will rebill automatically until you cancel it directly. Not annoyed enough yet? Well, try this: each sign-up page includes an option down at the bottom where you can sign-up for a Seven Day Free Trial of some other porn site. Unless you deliberately unclick the option box, you’ll automatically be signed up for the extra stuff, which will automatically rebill itself at a substantial rate (it varies) when the free runs out. Great way to screw unwary surfers, CamChatter.
Time for a Surprise!
Here’s the saddest news: you won’t get what you think you’re paying for. This isn’t really a camgirl site, lads: it’s a portal site where you can connect to other people’s camgirl sites. You’ll still have to register and pay at the cam site you link to in order to engage with the performers you’ve chosen. Well, that sucks, doesn’t it?
Ready for the Big Surprise? Okay, here it is. You want to know how I learned all this? I paid for a membership! Can be believe that? I must bow my head in shame and admit that your otherwise stingy host was so impressed at first that he did the unthinkable. But in my defense, I only paid for the three days/$2.97 membership. I feel stupid, yes, but I’d feel stupider if I’d paid for a full month and hadn’t cancelled within the hour.
To be fair, it’s not like you get nothing for your money — just not much. The portal also offers a bunch of hardcore videos in a variety of categories, and I looked at one or two. They’re not bad. Some you can download, some you can stream. The video-quality was consistently good, sure, but this wasn’t what I came here for. If I wanted video, I’d watch Debbie Does Dallas for free. Or maybe Sexworld or Taboo II. They’re old, sure, but they’re classic, and they’re already in my video collection.
So How Does It Rate?
Bottom-of-the-barrel low, actually. It does have a little free stuff to look at, but it’s the digital equivalent of a Potemkin village (just Google it, okay?). It’s window dressing, classic bait-and-switch, because what you get ain’t what you paid for. Worse, if you’re not careful, you’ll find yourself paying for even more in a couple of months, because you were snookered into accidentally signing up for a “free trial” of something else. And what do you wanna bet that it’s almost impossible to contact customer service to get your money back?
All this is bad enough, but to add insult to injury, this is one of those sites that’s hard to shut down. Click the big red X, and does CamChatter go away? Yes, it does. But then another porno website pops up, and when you close that one down another one pops up, and again and again, and by the time you finally get it under control you’ve taken a tour of some really sick shit. This is most definitely not the kind of site you want to be looking at when your girlfriend comes into the room and demands to know what you’re doing, because you can’t just turn it off — and if you try, you’ll just get a worse site that’ll get you into more trouble.
The short answer: It’s best to give this one a miss. Go to Flirt4Free instead, and enjoy the extravagant freeness there.
